Book Blurb: At the top of the stairs there are four secrets hidden. Blond, beautiful, innocent, and struggling to stay alive…

They were a perfect family, golden and carefree—until a heartbreaking tragedy shattered their happiness. Now, for the sake of an inheritance that will ensure their future, the children must be hidden away out of sight, as if they never existed. Kept on the top floor of their grandmother’s vast mansion, their loving mother assures them it will be just for a little while. But as brutal days swell into agonizing months and years, Cathy, Chris, and twins Cory and Carrie realize their survival is at the mercy of their cruel and superstitious grandmother…and this cramped and helpless world may be the only one they ever know.

Book One of the Dollanganger series, followed by Petals in the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday, and Garden of Shadows.

Review: Definitely in my top 3 favourite books. When I was a young girl, books were my escape. I read so much that I finished all children's books at a young age. The library lady gave me this book. Well...if you think your life sucks...read this. It's my understanding that the book is based on true events (but not 100% sure, Google isn't either). I admired the strength of Cathy. What do you do if you are so young and your normal life is just over? I actually cried as the emotions were overwhelming. Certain things are out of the question and will never be accepted in society. Hate, love, betrayal, revenge, anger, torture, pain...everything is in it. Most of the time I was just shocked. Why...How...For what??!! This book is an emotional rollercoaster, that takes you on a ride that's filled with oxygen shortages as most of the time you are reading and just holding your breath (or I did anyway)
