Book Blurb: Matilda is a little girl who is far too good to be true. At age five-and-a-half she's knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens. Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she's a super-nerd and the teacher's pet. But everything is not perfect in Matilda's world...

For starters, she has two of the most idiotic, self-centered parents who ever lived. Then there's the large, busty nightmare of a school principal, Miss ("The") Trunchbull, a former hammer-throwing champion who flings children at will, and is approximately as sympathetic as a bulldozer. Fortunately for Matilda, she has the inner resources to deal with such annoyances: astonishing intelligence, saintly patience, and an innate predilection for revenge.

Review: Let’s be honest people. For generations, this book made children believe that anything is possible. In my case...I was horrible at math, but man, I could read. Matilda was my favourite book growing up and the favourite of my children. The little girl only wants her parents to notice her. When that doesn’t happen, she starts to read and learn. She is unbelievably smart and when she attends school; it doesn’t get unnoticed by her teacher Miss Honey. Matilda and Miss Honey develop a strong bond. Both have an enormous obstacle in their way...Miss Trunchbull, the principal, and a monster. Will Matilda get what she has been looking for? The joy this book gives a child (and adults) is great. Laughing out loud, being a little scared at times and the tears of sadness and joy....this book has it all. I can’t believe that this masterpiece is being rewritten. It feels like we’re going back in time with books being rewritten and banned...but that’s for another post. Back to Matilda: buy it, read it, and read it to your children, but please use the original version as there is nothing better!!
